Dual Language Document Assistant — create dual-language translations in minutes
From time to time, you may be asked to create a multi-language translation containing the original text and its translation side by side. This is a common format on large international projects, for contracts, reports and other documents. Creating a multi-language translation takes a lot of manual work and requires knowledge of the correct workflow and various formatting tricks.
Text translated in dual-language table format
The new Dual Language Document Assistant tool incorporated into TransTools+ makes creating multi-language documents quick and easy. It can convert source text into two different formats: (1) two-column table, (2) paragraphs containing source and translation separated with a special separator, e.g. slash ( / ) or line break. All you need to do is take an original single-language Word document, select paragraphs to convert to dual-language format, click one of the buttons to convert text to the desired format, translate the document in your CAT tool, and finally unhide the original text with TransTools+ Hide/Unhide Text tool.
Here are the top 6 features of Dual Language Document Assistant which will save you time, allowing you to concentrate on translation:
- During conversion, the future translation is highlighted with a special highlight color and optionally marked as hidden text, making it easier to see where the translation should be and preparing the document for importing into your CAT tool.
- You can assign a keyboard shortcut to the Table tool and the Text tool to speed up the preparation process.
- You can save your conversion settings to multiple profiles and quickly load the required settings for multiple customers and document formats.
- The Text tool can automatically skip non-translatable paragraphs during conversion so that financial data and other non-translatable text stay in the original single-language format.
- The Text tool provides 3 presets which offer different conversion settings, making it easy to use multiple text separators in a single document. For example, you can use a forward slash ( / ) to separate original and translated text in headings, and use a line break elsewhere in the document.
- Numerous settings that allow you to tweak table column widths and border thickness, text separator such as line break or slash, whether the translation should be on the left side or the right side, whether a separate table row should be created for each paragraph or for all selected text, and many others.
For those of you who are already familiar with Dual Language Document Assistant tool included in TransTools, you will find many new enhancements in the TransTools+ “remake” of this tool: (1) better user interface, (2) keyboard shortcut support, (3) ability to skip non-translatable paragraphs with the text tool, (4) ability to hide the original text immediately, (5) other productivity and usability improvements. It is recommended to use this tool instead of the TransTools version.
To update to this version of TransTools+, download the latest TransTools+ installation file from the Download page and run it to install the update.
If you hold a license for TransTools+ version 1, installing this new version will replace version 1 on your computer and start a 30-day trial period. However, in case you do not want to continue using version 2, you will be able to reinstall TransTools+ version 1 at any time.
