Detailed information about Find Multiple Text tool

How Find Multiple Text tool can help you in your work

Here are some scenarios where Find Multiple Text tool will be useful:

  • Checking translation for common mistakes (misspellings, potential project-specific or user-specific mistakes, etc.). Thus, you can compile a list of all common mistakes that were made on the project in the past and re-use it for checking further translations. The tool works best with small ad-hoc lists rather than big lists. If you want to check a document using a big list, use Multiple Find & Replace tool or Correctomatic.
  • Finding specific text in the document if you are unsure about the exact word used. For example, if you are looking for references to the word "tank" or "vessel", you can enter both in the dialogue and it will find them for you.

  1. Word list area: Paste a list of words (words, word parts, phrases, etc) or type them into this field. Such a list can be created in Microsoft Excel or any simple text processor like Notepad. Items may be prepared in two formats:

    • Search item + line break (to separate from next item).

    • Search item + TAB character + special description (usually containing a short instruction on what to do when the item is found) + line break. The description will be displayed on the form (see item 2 below) when the search item is found so you can take the appropriate action (replace the word with the word indicated in the instruction, etc)

      tank-->replace with 'vessel'
      border-->replace with 'boundary'

      Note: '-->' above indicates a TAB character

    For a case-sensitive search, add `[c]` to the beginning of the search string, for example:
    (this will find only words that begin with or are equal to this capitalized letter combination).

    For a wildcard search, add `[w]` to the beginning of the search string, for example:
    (this will find all decimals with "." decimal point, e.g. 0.2, 123.45, etc.)
    Note: all wildcard searches are case-sensitive!

  2. Matches area: Shows the current match found in the document and optional instructions (description).

Click Find Next to find a next occurrence. To exit, click  x  at the top of the dialogue.
